Callus removal, foot scrub and foot massage

Bought another Groupon deal and this time it's not food.  It's for my feet ;)

Paid only RM15 for callus removal, foot scrub and foot massage instead of RM75 at A La Mode Makeover & Nail Spa at No 22-3, Jalan PJU 5/10, Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara, 47810 Petaling Jaya.

Redemption period is from October 21, 2011 to December 31, 2011 so after trying to make appointments for few weekends, I finally got one on November 13, 2011.  My appointment is at 1pm... started right away and was over in 20 minutes.  Not something I'll pay RM75 for...

Big Bad Wolf Aftermath Sale

For 5 days, from November 24 to 28, 2011, all the scratched, damaged and leftovers from the Big Bad Wolf Sale 2011 are all going for RM5 or below.  The sale was held at South City Plaza from 10am to 9pm.

Big Bad Wolf Sale ran daily from 10am to 9pm from October 7 to 16, 2011 at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS) in Serdang, Selangor.  I'm not familiar with the location so I didn't go to the sale so when I heard the aftermath sale is held at South City Plaza, I just couldn't miss it this time.

There are so many books to choose from and some are still in very good conditions.  Those around me were carrying box or trolley full of books.  I went there on the last day and the offer was 1 free book for every 10 books and 3 free books for every 20 books.  I didn't find the books that I want but I just couldn't leave empty-handed with books that cheap. The price is just irresistible and I ended up with 11 books.  Wonder if I ever found time to read all...

Celebrating birthday at Garden

It's time to celebrate another colleague's birthday.  This time it is dinner at Garden, a lifestyle store and cafe at Viva Home.  This is the birthday girl's first visit to  the cafe. 

The ambience is simply breathtaking and relaxing.

With a variety of food to choose from, we had grilled barramundi ~ fresh grilled fillet barramundi served with sauted vegetables, mash potatoes and burned butter sauce ~

 braised lamb shank ~ lamb shank braised with chef secret recipes, served with mash potato and ratatouille ~

lavender tea

and green heaven ~ green tea and red bean ~ for dessert

The service was excellent and I would definitely come again :)

Wedding dinner at Kelab Golf Negara Subang

As we are approaching the end of the year, I was invited to another ex-colleague's wedding dinner at Dewan Tunku, Kelab Golf Negara Subang on Saturday, December 3, 2011.

While it was easy to find Kelab Golf Negara Subang, finding Dewan Tunku was not that easy.  It was quite a walk from the visitor parking to the hall.  

The wedding decorations are elegant.  Here's the 'pelamin'

Not the typical Malay wedding reception, it was quite a refreshing experience.

This year our company annual dinner is held at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on Friday, November 18, 2011 and the theme is 70's.

The highlight of the event, of course, is the lucky draw.  Haven't won anything in the past few years and nothing changed this year.  

still no luck :( anyway, like the past few years, those "unlucky" ones will get consolation prize and this year it's a 4GB USB flash drive... not bad huh?

Blood donation

As I passed by the Mutiara Damansara area last week, I saw a banner on blood donation drive to be held at The Curve on November 20, 2011.

The last time I donated blood was more than a year ago so I've decided it is time to do it again.  Focus Point Caring Hearts Charity Foundation organised the blood donation drive in partnership with The Curve shopping mall and the National Blood Bank last Sunday from 10am to 5pm at The Curve shopping mall (near Anakku and MPH).  

Went there at 10.30am ~ registered, got weighed, blood pressure checked, blood taken ~ and it was over in less than half an hour.

To raise blood count after donating blood, we were given iron and folic acid tablets

So happy and proud of myself for being able to do this.  Means so much to me after the not-so-healthy episodes last year.

Wedding dinner at Concorde Hotel

It is really a good year to get married

stir fried egg noodles with scramble egg

Food and decoration aside, it was great meeting ex-colleagues who I haven't met since they left the company.

Mini 3D Animal Jellies

Another Groupon deal caught my attention and I bought it immediately.  Look what I got this time...

2 boxes of mini 3D animal jellies from Q Jelly for only RM9.90 instead RM20!

What attracts me to buy this deal?  First - obviously the price. Second - the colourful jellies :)  Third - I've never tried it before so why not try it when it's cheaper...  Last but not the least, of course, actually, most importantly is the location.  The voucher is valid at 3 outlets: Bandar Puteri Puchong, 1 Utama and Pavilion KL.  Of course,  I redeemed it at their outlet in Pavilion KL which is just nearby the office. Now was it worth it? Definitely :)

Be The Movement Charity Walk in support of World Hunger Relief 2011

There are just so many issues and causes to support in the world to make things better.  One of them is the World Hunger Relief.  World Hunger Relief is the world's largest private sector hunger relief effort in over 100 countries.  The World Hunger Relief Malaysia campaign is an initiative of KFC and Pizza Hut Malaysia stores nationally to spread awareness and generate funds within Malaysia.  All funds raised are donated to the United Nations World Food Program.

Last Saturday, October 29, 2011, I joined Be The Movement Charity Walk in support of World Hunger Relief 2011.

We were flagged off by the Sultanah of Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah at 5.45pm. The 5km walk started and ended at Istana Kehakiman in Precinct 3, Putrajaya.

Collection of T-shirt is from 1pm to 3.30 pm so we have to be there earlier to collect it.

As it has been raining almost every evening, each participant was given a hooded plastic poncho.  Turned out it was a bright sunny day :)

Meal coupon was provided to the participants redeemable for a burger at the KFC booth or a pizza at the Pizza Hut booth or a chicken rice (?) at Rasamas booth.

There were a concert featuring Mizz Nina, Hujan and other local artistes and a mini carnival with fun filled activities.

More than 10,000 joined this walk and we received a certificate of participation

and a goodie bag upon completion of the walk.

It was a good experience and surprisingly, not tiring at all.  It was just another evening walk, only with more than 10,000 other people :)

Window shopping at The Mines

The last time I've been to this shopping mall was probably years ago, when it was still known as Mines Shopping Fair.  CapitaMalls Asia had transformed this shopping mall with a brand new look and launched its new name and logo as The Mines on March 10, 2010.  

The uniqueness of this shopping mall is that the water canal that connects the former tin mines lakes, the North Lake and the South Lake, goes right through its complex.  One may enjoy the panoramic lake views on the water taxi tour and experience the 7-metre high water lift which connects the North Lake and South Lake.

Located at Jalan Dulang, Mines Resort City, Seri Kembangan, it is not exactly a place I'll go for shopping.

Even with the major revamp, it still doesn't attract me as a shopper. Spent only about an hour walking around in the mall and ended up leaving the mall empty-handed ~ which does not always happen ~ Maybe I'll come back in a few years' time and see if it's still the same.

Dinner at Joe Joe Restaurant

I'm sure by now, a lot of people have heard of Groupon.  It is a website which features deals on restaurants, beauty, health, spa, travel, leisure, fashions, car care, home services, books, sports and more for up to 90% discounts. The deal, however, can only take place when a predetermined minimum number of people buy the deal.  In other words, the deal is on when there is enough people buy it.  

I was not interested at first but it keeps appearing on my facebook page that I decided to just see what is it all about.  One deal caught my attention and I bought it.  It's for 2 Local Main Dishes + Mango Pudding for 2 at Joe Joe Restaurant for RM16 instead of RM34.76. The restaurant is located at Viva Home.  We used that voucher for dinner last Thursday.  

We chose to have pineapple fried rice

~ fried rice with salted fish, chicken and prawns served in pineapple topped with savoury sliced papaya ~

seafood noodles

~ noodles cooked with prawns, fish green mussels, crabsticks, mushroom and carrot ~

and the mango pudding

~ pudding with fresh cut mango, mango juice and evaporated milk ~
looks like an egg yolk eh?

Medical check-up at KLSMC

This year we are entitled to claim for medical check-up biennially so I took the opportunity to go and do one.

I googled for the health screening packages offered in KL and I decided to do it at Kuala Lumpur Sports Medicine Centre.  Guess it never occurred to anyone to do it there, huh?  Their General package of RM288 consists of the following:
* Medical history review
* Physical examination
* Resting electrocardiograph (ECG)
* Free radical test (urine)
* Health screening profile:

• Full blood count
• Lipid profile
• Liver function test
• Renal function test
• Hepatitis B
• Urine FEME
• VDRL
• ABO Grouping & Rh

When I got my results, I was so happy when the doctor said that it was a very good one and asked me to continue what I'm doing and eating now.  Guess I must have doing right whatever that is hmmmm.  However, the doctor noted that I did not drink enough water and advised me to drink sufficiently.

I was seated with my colleagues at table no.2.  Never been seated near the main table and the stage before. So happy for the newly weds... errr not so new considering that they registered their marriage in May last year...

Eating Italian food

Last Sunday, four of us met up for lunch at Italiannies Pasta Pizza & Vino, The Gardens.  We were schoolmates during secondary school and haven't met each other since we left school which is ages ago... so this is sort of a secondary school reunion ^^  

We had shrimp aglio olio ~linguine with shrimp, artichoke hearts, oven dried tomatoes, black olives and garlic~

shrimp linguine ~sauteed shrimp served with marinara sauce~

pepperoni pizza ~beef pepperoni, mozzarella cheese and shaved onions~

lamb chops with basil ~basil marinated lamb chops served with mashed potatoes and Marsala wine sauce~

and seafood risotto ~a medley of seafood sauteed in white wine with Arborio rice simmered in clam and chicken broth~

It was great to meet up after all these years.  Definitely a lot of catching up to do.  Everyone pretty much looks the same, only older.  The food was good so is the ambience.  Well, most important of all is of course, good company ^^

In Italy, families and friends gather together come dining time, sharing the stories of the day.  At Italiannies, this rich tradition is followed faithfully with an ambience resembling authentic everyday Italian households and an amiable staff.  It encourages guests to share their orders in the true Italian tradition as they believe strongly that the best ingredient for an enjoyable dining experience is some company to share good food with.  Too bad, the only food we shared was the pizza... not being so Italian huh?
