On Saturday, June 28, 2014, I drove to Melaka with two colleagues for an overnight "eating" trip. We left KL around 9.50 am and reached Melaka at 11.20 am. We had an early lunch at Hoe Kee Chicken Rice shop. Well, of course, we had chicken rice :)
We walked to Hard Rock Cafe right after lunch.
Next stop was Taste Better durian puff followed by Nancy's Kitchen where we had curry laksa, spring roll (popiah) ~ steam spring roll served with turnips, cucumber, fresh bean, coriander leaves, eggs and garlic ~ and top hat (pai tee) ~ hat-shaped cone filled with vegetables ~
Before we checked in the hotel, we had desserts ~ chocolate fruits plate, papaya snow ice with papaya and mixed pudding with pearl topping ~ at Big Bowl Ice, 23, Lorong Bukit Cina.
Hotel Equatorial Melaka is a 5-star 22-storey international business class hotel located at Bandar Hilir. It features 496 rooms with view of the Straits of Melaka or historical St Paul's Hill.
After resting for a few hours, we walked to the night market at Jonker Walk where we had our dinner. We also had Portuguese tarts, curry balls and both of them had dim sum, durian cendol and fried oyster.
Can't miss the largest pineapple tart which was recorded by Malaysia Book of Records in 2004.
Can't leave Melaka without having their satay celup... Satay Celup is a dish where an assortment of raw and semi-cooked seafood, meat and vegetables on skewers are dunked into a hot boiling pot of satay gravy. Capitol Satay Celup Restaurant, located at 41, Lorong Bukit Cina, is the most talk-about satay celup restaurant in Melaka. Capitol Satay Celup owned by Low Yong Cheng's family is the pioneer of satay celup in Melaka. The business has started since mid-1950s. The queue at Capital Satay Celup was too long to wait so we decided to have satay celup at A'Famosa Satay Celup Restaurant which is across the street. It was still a long queue at Capital Satay Celup when we walked back to the hotel.
We reached the hotel around 11 pm. After a good night sleep, we checked out around 10.30 am the next morning. Our only stop before we left Melaka was for nyonya kuih from Baba Charlie Nyonya Cakes located at 72, Jalan Tengkera Pantai 2. Baba Charlie Nyonya Cakes was established in Melaka in 1988. The business was passed down by Baba Charlie's grandmother to his mother and then to himself. It specialised in all kinds of traditional nyonya kuih.
We reached Kajang around 12.45 pm. Didn't take many photos on this trip. We were disappointed with the food. Probably coz we tasted better ones.
Till next week, looking forward to the World Cup final this Monday morning.
