Kaul Mukah 2023

Kaul is a Melanau annual festival usually held in the end of April. The word "kaul" means "coming together" in Melanau language. Pesta Kaul is a festival with Melanau food, games and beauty pageant competition. This year, it was held from Wednesday, April 26 to Monday, May 1.

My brother and I left Kuching at 6am and reached Sibu at 11am. We stopped for lunch at food court where I had rice with fried talapia and barley juice.

We left Sibu at 3pm and reached Mukah at 5pm on Sunday, April 30, 2023. 

We went to Pesta Kaul straight away. This is the first time I have ever been to Pesta Kaul considering I have always wanted to go but the timing was not right so glad that I finally made it this year.

There are 2 tibow available ~ didn't take a photo though. Tibow is a 20-foot high swing where youths dive from a high bamboo and catch a swinging rope as it reaches the height of its arc. Then one after another up to eight people hang in a clump from the giant swing. 

Five of us visited the stalls and walked along the beach. We had dinner there after we had the gula apong ice-cream which was so sweet. Yeah, we have desserts before dinner.

My brothers and sister-in-law joined the 5km fun run on Monday, May 1, 2023.

My brother and I left Mukah at 3pm and reached Sibu at 5pm on Monday, May 1, 2023.

Till next week, happy to be in Sarawak more than once a year again.

A weekend at Cherating

Departed from KLIA at 6.15pm on last Friday, March 17, 2023 and arrived at Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport at 6.50pm. Left for Royale Chulan Cherating Chalets located at Kampung Cherating Lama, Cherating, 26100 Kuantan by airport taxi (RM80) at 7.10pm.

Checked in at Royale Chulan Cherating Chalets at 8.00pm. There is a tourism tax of RM3 per night. 

Too tired to check around the area so ordered room service for Cherating Lama fried rice (RM28.30). 

On Saturday, March 18, 2023, had the buffet breakfast from 7.29am to 8.00am. 

Picked up at the lobby at 8.27am to Maznah Guest House to wait for eleven American tourists. Joined them on the mangrove river cruise (RM40) for Sungai Cherating and Sungai Belat from 8.50am to 10.15am. 

I had a blossom anti-stress therapy body and foot massage (RM137.80) from 12 noon to 1.25pm at The Blossom Spa Retreat. It was so good. 

Walked to Limbong Art for batik painting lesson (RM50). Was there from 1.52pm to 4.07pm. Started from scratch with drawing on the white canvas, canting and colouring. Glad to be able to take the batik painting lesson.

Dropped by Kak Gee & Sam for fried kuay teow (RM7), fruits rojak (RM7) and a big chicken curry puff (RM2). Picked up at the lobby at 8.10pm for firefly watching (RM40). Cruised Sungai Cherating with six other local tourists from 8.40pm to 9.20pm.

On Sunday, March 19, 2023, I had the buffet breakfast from 7.05am to 7.35am. Walked on the beach from 7.45am to 8.20am. 

Picked up at the lobby at 12.20pm for lunch at Ocean Restaurant at Royale Chulan Cherating Villas. 

I had cheesy nachos (RM21), Royale cheese burger (RM34) and watermelon juice (RM16). 

Dropped back at the chalet after lunch at 1.50pm. 

Walked to Limbong Art at 2.28pm to collect my batik paint. 

Back in the room at 2.38pm. Went for foot soak, scrub and callus (RM126.14) at The Blossom Spa Retreat from 4.00pm to 4.30pm. 

I made a last minute decision to do pedicure but there is no available slot until 6pm so I was back for pedicure (RM73.14) till 7.17pm. The pedicurist accidentally got my left big toe cut. They apologised profusely but it was alright though it was painful till now *sigh* Spent half an hour on the beach to watch the sunset from 7.20pm to 7.50pm. 

Walked out to take away fried kuay teow (RM8) from the shop right across the chalets.

On Monday, March 20, 2023, I had the buffet breakfast from 7.00am to 7.35am before checked out.

Left for the airport at 8.15am by taxi (RM100). Reached the airport at 9.15am. 

Departed from Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport at 10.45am and arrived at KLIA at 11.55am. I had dry chilli beef rice set (RM18.90) at the food court located at Level 2. Left the airport by taxi (RM84.30) at 1.09pm and reached home at 2.09pm.
